Subject: Please support ALPR privacy legislation in 2027

Dear ,

I am a constituent in your district writing to ask for your support for legislation that would establish clear, statewide rules governing automated license plate readers (ALPRs) in Indiana.

These cameras photograph every license plate they see — recording where Hoosiers go, when, and how often. Right now, Indiana has no statewide standards for how long that data is kept, who can access it, or how it can be shared.

I am asking you to champion legislation in the 2027 session that would establish:

  • A 7-day deletion requirement — ALPR data must be deleted within 7 days unless tied to an active warrant, alert match, or ongoing investigation
  • A ban on commercial transfer — ALPR data may not be sold, licensed, or shared with any private or third-party entity
  • Mandatory transparency portals — agencies must log all ALPR searches and maintain publicly accessible records showing how the technology is deployed

Over 4,324 Hoosiers have signed a petition supporting these common-sense protections. I hope you will stand with us.

Thank you for your service to our district.

Their office staff logs every call. Even a 30-second voicemail counts.

"Hi, my name is [your name] and I'm a constituent. I'm calling to ask to support ALPR data standards legislation in the 2027 session — specifically a 7-day deletion requirement, a ban on selling plate data to private companies, and mandatory public transparency portals. Can you pass that along? Thank you."
